Application Deadline: October 16, 2024
The GitLab Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2024 AI for Economic Opportunity Fund. This initiative, created in collaboration with the GitLab Foundation, Ballmer Group, and OpenAI, aims to use AI technologies to enhance economic opportunities and promote income growth. The foundation’s mission is to increase lifetime earnings by expanding access to opportunities, and this fund seeks innovative solutions that can achieve this goal.
The fund encourages a wide range of creative applications, including tools and services related to skill development, job matching, hiring processes, internal mobility, coaching, benefits access, de-biasing systems, data analysis, job quality improvements, and more. Applicants can submit up to three different concepts for consideration.
Program Phases:
- Phase 1: In this initial stage, the GitLab Foundation will allocate at least $3.5 million to support up to 14 demonstration projects. These projects will focus on creating and testing prototypes, collecting user feedback, and building evidence to showcase outcomes.
- Phase 2: Following the demonstration phase, the Ballmer Group will fund high-potential projects with grants ranging from $500,000 to $1.5 million per year for one to two years. Up to six projects from the first phase will be selected for this scaling phase.
Additionally, OpenAI will provide financial backing, early access to new products, credits, and technical support for the grantees. Other funders are also invited to join in reviewing and supporting high-potential projects. Over the course of this initiative, total funding is expected to exceed $10 million.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be nonprofit organizations based in the U.S.
- Partnerships are encouraged, particularly collaborations between nonprofits and for-profit startups, consultants, or technology experts.
How to Apply:
- Submit a concept note by October 16, 2024.
- Finalists will be selected from the concept note submissions and invited to complete a full application by October 31.
