2025 DAAD In-Country & In-Region Scholarships

Applications are now being accepted for the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Programme Sub-Saharan Africa 2025. This initiative is designed to bolster globally connected higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa and enhance their capacity for sustainable development. The programme offers scholarships for development-focused Master’s and doctoral studies to individuals planning careers in teaching and research at higher education institutions within the region.

Funding Details

Scholarship recipients receive financial support for the full duration of their courses—typically up to two years for Master’s programmes and up to three years for PhD programmes. The scholarship package generally includes:

  • A monthly stipend
  • Study and research funding
  • Support for thesis publication expenses
  • Tuition fee coverage

For those awarded In-Region scholarships, additional benefits include:

  • Travel allowance
  • Health insurance coverage

Eligibility Criteria

The programme is open to graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa. Applicants should have:

  • A first academic degree if applying for a Master’s programme
  • A Master’s degree if applying for a doctoral programme

Candidates must be interested in pursuing their studies either in their home country (In-Country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African nation (In-Region scholarships). Female applicants and individuals from underrepresented regions or groups are especially encouraged to apply.
