The 2025 Commonwealth Peace Prize (£50,000 Award)

The Commonwealth seeks nominations for the prestigious 2025 Peace Prize. This distinguished award honours individuals who have demonstrably advanced peace and social harmony through faith-based involvement.

Organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat in collaboration with the Khalili Foundation, the Peace Prize aligns with the Commonwealth Faith Festival and the ongoing initiative, “Faith in the Commonwealth.”

Objectives of the Prize:

  • Empowering Youth and Partnerships: Highlight impactful peacebuilding initiatives led by youth and fostered through intergenerational collaboration.
  • Promoting Dialogue and Innovation: Encourage the use of innovative methods and dialogue to cultivate greater understanding across the Commonwealth.

Award Recognition

The esteemed winner will receive a citation and a letter outlining a financial award of £50,000 to support the continuation of their peacebuilding efforts. Shortlisted candidates will not be publicly disclosed. However, they may be invited to participate in Commonwealth Faith Festival activities.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Distinguished Commonwealth Citizen: The award seeks a living, accomplished individual over 30 who is a citizen of a Commonwealth nation.
  • Proven Peacebuilding Leader: The nominee should be a respected mediator with a long-standing and successful history of fostering peace within Commonwealth societies.
  • Sustainable Peacebuilding Strategies: The candidate must have established lasting mechanisms for dialogue that demonstrably contributed to conflict resolution, sustained peace, social cohesion, or other measurable positive changes.
  • Promoting Commonwealth Values: Throughout their work, the nominee has consistently advocated for Commonwealth principles such as tolerance, respect, understanding, and celebrating diversity in culture, race, ethnicity, and religion.
  • Faith-Based Approach: The nominee has effectively utilized principles derived from their religious faith or the principles enshrined in the Commonwealth Charter to create and sustain positive peace, ultimately aiming for free and democratic societies with inclusive development.
  • Prior Recognition: Individuals previously recognized for their peacebuilding efforts through international prizes are eligible for nomination.

Nomination Process:

Official nominations can only be submitted by member governments through their High Commissions in London or non-resident High Commissioners / accredited Commonwealth officials, and Heads of Commonwealth Accredited Organizations.

Nominations (in the form of an official recommendation letter) along with an impact biography of the nominee outlining how they meet the criteria must be received via email (PeacePrize@commonwealth.int) by the Commonwealth Secretariat by 23:59 GMT on January 17, 2025.
