Incoming freshmen to the University of California, Irvine for Fall 2025 can now apply for the Summer Bridge Scholarship. This opportunity is tailored for high school seniors who come from first-generation, low-income, or underrepresented backgrounds and want to prepare for college life in a supportive, resource-rich environment.

The Summer Bridge Program provides more than just academic preparation—it offers valuable campus connections, mentorship, and financial assistance. Successful applicants will receive support that significantly reduces their participation costs.

What the Scholarship Offers

• Coverage of $6,531 in costs, including tuition and housing
• Students pay only $194 for the campus fee and $360 for the health insurance fee (waivable)
• Access to free equipment loans (books, tech devices, calculators)
• Academic and personal support through individual advising
• Priority course registration for future terms
• Mentoring and workshops extending through the first year
• Complimentary LARC tutorial assistance

Who Can Apply
Eligible students must:

• Be in their senior year of high school
• Be admitted to UCI for Fall 2025 and have submitted a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR)
• Hold California residency (including AB540 or undocumented status)
• Fulfill one or more of these conditions:
  • First-generation college student
  • Demonstrated low-income status via FAFSA or CA Dream Act
  • Background of hardship or other disadvantage

Program Expectations
Recipients will need to:

• Attend SPOP 6 from August 1 to 2 and the Welcome event on August 3
• Stay on campus (quad dorms) from July 31 through September 11, 2025
• Enroll in and attend:
  • University Studies 84 (Mon/Wed, 4–6:50 PM)
  • Sociology 1 (Tue/Thu, 1–3:50 PM)
• Participate in at least two Faculty Connections and two Collegiate Life events
• Engage with Community Care programming and meet assigned mentors

How to Submit Your Application
Students who have submitted their SIR can apply through the UCI applicant portal. Be prepared to respond to two short essay prompts (150–250 words each):

1. Why do you want to participate in the Summer Bridge Program, and how will it impact your experience at UCI?
2. What aspects of your background make you a deserving candidate?
