Canadian Consumer Protection Initiative Program 2025-2027 (up to $500,000)

Applications are now open for the Canadian Consumer Protection Initiative Program 2025-2027, an initiative led by Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada’s Office of Consumer Affairs. This program supports Canadian nonprofit organizations in their efforts to advocate for consumer rights and protections.

Program Overview
The program funds independent research on consumer issues and supports the development of resources that empower consumers to make informed marketplace decisions. Additionally, it focuses on enhancing the capacity of consumer organizations, increasing their visibility, membership, and sustainability to better serve Canadian consumers.

Priority Topics
Proposals that address the following areas will receive special consideration:

  • Consumer Protection.
  • Sustainable Consumption and the Circular Economy.
  • Affordability, Systemic Barriers, and Risks to Vulnerable Consumers.
  • Consumers and the Financial Sector.

Funding Details

  • Maximum funding per project: CAD 500,000.
  • Project duration: Up to 24 months.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be nonprofit organizations or associations incorporated in Canada, either federally or provincially. Eligible entities include:

  • Nonprofit social enterprises or cooperatives.
  • Consortia of nonprofit organizations.
  • Post-secondary institutions or research institutes.
  • Indigenous organizations.

Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • A governance structure and funding model free from commercial influence on research, policy, or outreach activities.
  • The ability to engage a broad audience, including Canadian consumers beyond their organization.
  • Competence, credibility, and accountability in executing projects.
  • Alignment with the program’s goals, including promoting sound research and fostering innovative solutions to consumer issues.

For organizations applying under the organizational development category, the primary mandate must focus on protecting consumer interests and they must be incorporated as nonprofit entities in Canada.
