Established in Brussels in 2011, MPI Europe is a nonprofit, independent research institute dedicated to enhancing the understanding of migration in Europe and promoting effective policymaking. The institute provides authoritative research and practical policy design to governmental and nongovernmental stakeholders, focusing on the management of immigration, immigrant integration, and asylum systems, as well as supporting successful outcomes for newcomers and their communities in Europe.

Internship Cycles

  • Fall: September through the end of February, 2025
  • Spring: March through August, 2024

1# Research Internships – Apply by July 1, 2024

MPI Europe is seeking two full-time, in-person research interns in Brussels starting in September. This six-month internship offers a unique opportunity to work with experts in various policy areas, including EU migration and asylum systems, labor migration, and immigrant integration. Interns will collaborate with policy analysts and senior management and gain experience organizing events, enriching their professional networks.

Duties:

  • Support the MPI Europe team, including senior management
  • Contribute to research efforts
  • Draft papers and prepare literature summaries
  • Assist in publication dissemination
  • Provide administrative support for events
  • Attend and summarize relevant public and private events

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field (Master’s or PhD candidates available full-time are welcome)
  • Demonstrated interest in migration, asylum, or integration
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in languages other than English
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Access
  • Experience with quantitative, qualitative, or policy research

  • Five-day work schedule (38 hours per week) with potential telework options after two months
  • Internship location: Rue de la Loi, 155 – 1040 – Etterbeek
  • Payment: 1310.15 euros per month
  • Lunch vouchers: 8 euros per workday
  • Relocation expenses not covered

MPI Europe is also seeking a full-time, in-person finance and administration intern in Brussels starting July 1, 2024. This six-month internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in operations and financial reporting, supporting MPI Europe’s financial processes and compliance.

Duties:

  • Support accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Assist with financial record-keeping and data entry
  • Aid in preparing financial reports and audit files
  • Verify and update financial procedures
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Work authorization in Belgium
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in languages other than English
  • Previous experience with European institutions or NGOs in Brussels
